First of all, I really don’t like the word “no”, as a rule, its use encourages one to do the opposite or causes a feeling of anxiety that a person is limited in something.

In fact, the diet for diabetes is quite varied, but, of course, there are foods that are better to limit in the diet, because they either cause weight gain (and the vast majority of patients with type 2 diabetes are overweight), or sharply and quickly increase blood glucose levels, or contribute to the deterioration of fat metabolism, and so on.

Yulia Sorokina, endocrinologist and nutritionist, told us which foods should not be eaten if you have diabetes.

Traditionally, the intake of simple (fast-digesting, refined) carbohydrates is not recommended.

Such products and dishes include: baked goods, pies, sugar, candy, chocolate and other confectionery products with added sucrose, juices and fruit waters with added sucrose.

In addition, limit foods with complex carbohydrates, but which increase sugar levels faster and more strongly, that is, have a high glycemic index: grapes, bananas, figs, white rice, semolina, wheat porridge, fried, baked and mashed potatoes.

It is not recommended to consume animal saturated fats: spicy, hot, smoked snacks, goose, duck, offal, fatty pork, canned meat and fish, strong fish, meat broths, lard, fat, mutton, beef, pork fat, milk 3.2% and higher, cottage cheese 9% fat and higher, fatty sour cream, ice cream. Also alcoholic beverages.

However, it is important to remember that patients who receive insulin or medications that can cause a sharp drop in sugar should always have some quickly digestible carbohydrates with them: sugar cubes, honey, fruit juice, glucose tablets, syrup.

Taking such carbohydrates when necessary will help normalize sugar levels and prevent them from falling.
