Light physical exercise is essential.

But they are important not only for the body, but also for the brain. This is the conclusion reached by specialists from the University of Tsukuba.

They found that if an elderly person included physical activity in their schedule for three months, their cognitive functions would improve.

The corresponding findings were published in GeroScience .

As the scientists noted, previous studies have shown that walking and yoga temporarily improve mental function.

But in the new study, the authors looked at the effects of long-term moderate aerobic exercise. The subjects were aged 55 to 78.

The volunteers were divided into groups.

One team did low-intensity cycling training three times a week.

As for the other group, its members maintained a normal schedule.

It turned out that the first group's results were significantly better. Men and women aged 68 to 78 showed a more pronounced effect.
