A person needs to get enough sleep so that his body can recover and function normally, be more resistant to illness, stress, and so on.
The quality of sleep also affects brain activity. But not all people whose activities are connected with memorization and study can get enough sleep. First of all, we are talking about students who sacrifice sleep before the exam session.
American scientists gave student volunteers trackers that recorded the duration and quality of sleep.
Doctors recommended sleeping for about 8-10 hours.
The freshmen in the study slept far less than the recommended amount, averaging about 6.5 hours. But their end-of-semester grades were still quite high.
However, if a person neglected his health and slept less than 6 hours, then this had a negative impact not only on his condition, but also on his academic performance.
As a result, the scientists noted that the more students slept, the higher their final grades.
The findings appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
