Cleaning a down jacket from dirt, let's face it, is quite difficult.

After machine washing, the down often clumps together, making the jacket less warm.

The usual solution to this problem is to use tennis balls, which break up the clumps of fluff in the drum.

But if you haven’t prepared for washing in advance, and you need to clean your down jacket right here and now, you can use an unexpected and simple item that you can definitely find in your kitchen – an ordinary potato.

How does this work

A potato tuber can take on the same role as a tennis ball.

As the washing machine drum rotates, the potato acts as a weight and breaks up clumps of fluff during spinning.

How to use a life hack correctly

To wash your down jacket and maintain its appearance and functionality, follow these steps:

Before you start washing your down jacket, prepare it by fastening zippers, fasteners and buttons.

After that, take care of the potatoes. You will need one or two tubers, which should be washed thoroughly and wrapped in a clean cotton cloth or placed in a sock so as not to stain your outerwear.

Wash the down jacket using a delicate cycle, water at a temperature no higher than 30 degrees and liquid detergent intended for delicate fabrics.

The product should be wrung out at minimum speed and dried in a horizontal position, shaking periodically.
