It has become clear how you can finally encourage a smoker to give up his bad habit.

Many say that this is the most effective way. However, there is a nuance - it will not suit everyone.

The discovery belongs to the authors of a specially conducted study.

The results of this work were published in one of the Western scientific publications.

Experts have found that citizens are more likely to quit smoking if they are financially rewarded for doing so.

The researchers conducted an experiment by running a series of programs.

As part of the latter, smokers were offered cash incentives or gift certificates for quitting the bad habit.

The experiment showed that participants in these projects were 54% more likely to quit smoking compared to those who were not given any incentives.

And for pregnant women, the programs were even more effective.

Expectant mothers were twice as likely to quit smoking in the long term if they were given financial incentives.

By the way, the financial “prize” for quitting smoking varied widely – from small amounts to a solid $1,200.

Doctors remind: smoking is one of the global causes of serious diseases and premature death.

As for the results of the study, 10 out of 100 smokers who received rewards did not touch cigarettes for six months or more.

For people who were not offered incentives, the situation is as follows: 7 out of 100 people did not smoke for the same amount of time.

Among pregnant women, 13 out of 100 women quit smoking for a reward, while without a reward, 6 out of 100 did so.
