How to Remove Wax from Store-Bought Apples: The Easiest Way

Many store-bought apples are coated with wax.

Waxing of fruits is carried out in order to protect fruits from rapid loss of moisture and from rotting.

As a result, the apples retain normal quality even after long transportation.

Wax acts not only as a protective layer, but also as an “improver” of the appearance of the fruit.

A thin wax layer makes the apples shiny. The product becomes attractive to potential buyers.

The wax on apples does not pose a health hazard to humans.

And yet, many gourmets have a desire to completely wash off the “extra layer”.

The problem is that using plain water alone is unlikely to achieve the ideal result.

How to completely remove wax from apples

First, the fruit must be rinsed with running water.

Next, the fruits must be placed in a bowl filled with a soda solution.

To obtain the latter, you just need to add a little sodium bicarbonate (1 tbsp) to warm water poured into a container and mix the liquid thoroughly.

The apples should sit in the resulting solution for 10 minutes.

Next, the fruit must be removed, carefully wiped with a clean sponge and rinsed again with plain water (without any additives).

Done! Now the apples are absolutely clean.
