You can remove rust from clothes using improvised means or special preparations.

It is important to consider the type of fabric and not to use aggressive methods for delicate materials. Here are proven methods.

Citric acid or lemon juice + salt

How to use:

  • Mix lemon juice (or citric acid solution) with table salt until it forms a paste.
  • Apply the mixture to the stain and leave for 30-60 minutes.
  • Brush clean, then wash garment as normal.

Why it works: The acid dissolves iron oxide (rust) and the salt acts as an abrasive.

Table vinegar (9%)

  • Pour vinegar on the stain or soak the stained area for 1-2 hours.
  • Scrub with a brush, then wash with powder.
  • To enhance the effect, you can heat the vinegar (do not boil it!).

Important: Do not use on wool, silk or other delicate fabrics.

Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid)

How to use:

  • Crush 2-3 aspirin tablets into powder, mix with water until it becomes a paste.
  • Apply to stain, leave for 2-3 hours, then wash.

Glycerin + chalk

How to use:

  • Mix glycerin with crushed chalk (2:1).
  • Apply to stain, leave for 24 hours.
  • Clean off any residue and wash the item.

Toothpaste

How to use:

  • Apply white toothpaste (without gel or dyes) to the stain.
  • Leave for 1-2 hours, brush, then wash.

Important tips:

  1. Do not dry the item in the washing machine until the stain is completely removed - high temperatures will set the rust.
  2. Treat old stains several times.
  3. For white fabrics, you can add a little chlorine bleach to the solution (if the material allows it).
  4. Do not rub too vigorously - this will damage the fabric fibers.
