August is coming soon – time to enjoy watermelons. There are already plenty of them in the markets and shops today.
The problem is that when buying melons you can choose a completely tasteless, not juicy, “grassy” watermelon with a whole arsenal of nitrates.
How not to make a mistake when choosing a berry? Experts advise first of all to familiarize yourself with what a watermelon looks like in general.
The crust should be hard, shiny, bright, contrasting in color, and there must be a yellow or orange spot on the side.
The ripeness of the berry is indicated by its tail – it should be dry.
By the way, you can check the ripeness by pressing your fingernail on the rind of the watermelon.
If your fingernail easily pierces it, you know that you are looking at an unripe fruit.
You can also hit the watermelon with your palm. If it is ripe, you will hear a ringing sound and feel vibration. If you hit it with your finger, the berry will respond with a moderate ringing sound.
