Clean and well-maintained windows add coziness and freshness to your home and allow you to enjoy beautiful views.
However, not all products and methods are suitable for caring for plastic windows.
The wrong choice of cleaning agent or tool may result in damage to the frame, seals or glass.
What should you not wash plastic windows with to preserve their appearance and functionality for many years?
Abrasive cleaning agents
Plastic frames and double-glazed windows are particularly vulnerable to abrasive cleaning agents.
The grains they contain can leave scratches on the surface, deteriorating the appearance of the windows and creating a favorable environment for the accumulation of dirt and dust.
Abrasive powders and pastes, metal sponges and hard brushes should not be used when cleaning plastic windows.
Chemical solvents
Chemical solvents such as acetone, gasoline or white spirit can seriously damage plastic surfaces.
They corrode the material, leaving stains and deformations on it. In addition, solvents can damage the seals, which will lead to a deterioration in the heat and sound insulation properties of the window.
The use of such substances is strictly not recommended.
Aggressive detergents
Cleaning products containing acids or alkalis can also damage plastic windows.
They are capable of destroying the structure of plastic and damaging sealing rubbers. Such products include some household cleaning products designed to remove complex stains.
For window care, it is better to choose neutral or slightly alkaline products.
Hot water and steam
Washing plastic windows with hot water or using a steam cleaner can lead to deformation of the plastic and damage to the seals.
High temperatures have a negative effect on the structure of the material, making it brittle and prone to cracking. The optimal water temperature for washing windows is room temperature or slightly warm.
Regular soap and dishwashing detergents
While soaps and dish soaps may seem safe, they can leave greasy residue and a film on the surface of your windows that attracts dust and dirt.
This worsens the appearance of the window and requires additional effort to remove soap residue. It is better to use specialized window cleaners or solutions based on vinegar and water.
Sharp tools and scrapers
Using sharp tools such as knives or metal scrapers may scratch glass and plastic.
Even minor damage can become a source of dirt accumulation and over time lead to a deterioration in the transparency of the glass. To remove stubborn dirt, it is better to use plastic or rubber tools.
Improper care of seals
Sealing rubbers play an important role in ensuring the tightness of the window.
The use of aggressive cleaning agents or insufficient care may lead to premature wear.
It is recommended to regularly wipe the seals with a damp cloth and treat them with special rubber care products.
