What to do if a champagne cork gets in your eye: how not to lose your sight at the festive table – useful advice

They say that a champagne cork shoots out of a bottle at 40 kilometers per hour. And if the "projectile" hits your eye at that speed, don't expect anything good.

The consequences may be different - from a banal bruise to a visit to the ophthalmologist. But in any case, the unpleasant memories will last for a whole year, and guests will remember this "funny" incident for a long time.

And if on this night the stars aligned in some special way and the clouds gathered above you, then act approximately like this.

First of all, no self-medication. The cork can get into the eye, and the person won't even have time to blink. That's why it is recommended to chill champagne.

Secondly, after receiving an injury, you should not rub the "black" eye. You can accidentally bring in debris that could have been on the cork - foil or another object.

Thirdly, blink frequently so that any debris that may have gotten into your eye can come out along with the tear. If the foreign body does not come out, seek medical help.

Fourthly, if there is no blood or other damage, you can apply a cold compress, but for no more than 10 minutes.

Fifthly, if the injury is bothering you, do not delay visiting a doctor.

Jokes aside, you need to check the condition of the retina, fundus and optic nerve.

It may require long-term treatment, but there is nothing you can't do to preserve your vision.
