If you want the cast iron frying pan you bought to serve you faithfully for decades, and for your grandchildren to use it in the future, don’t forget that after purchasing it, you’ll have to “work some magic” on it.
The first step, of course, is unpacking.
After this, place the pan on the stove and sprinkle salt on its bottom, then heat the pan over medium-high heat for 20 minutes.
How do you know that the procedure can be finished? The clue will be smoke, or rather its absence - after the calcination is finished, the smoke stops.
By the way, due to the possibility of smoke filling the apartment, as well as the not very pleasant smell of smoke, consider the possibility of carrying out this “operation” outside, over a fire.
Another important point: when calcining, do not cover the dishes with a lid.
Now you can turn off the heat and wait until the pan and salt cool down.
After that, get rid of the salt, wash the pan thoroughly and wipe it dry. Now you can safely use it to cook your favorite dishes.
