Many people are surprised that on some housewives' New Year's tables there are sweet and juicy watermelons that were clearly bought in the summer or early fall.
Judging by the taste of the fruit, you can be sure that they were indeed purchased during the “golden season” for melons.
It may seem that it is impossible to store watermelon for such a long period.
What do experienced housewives think about this?
As it turns out, with the right method, preserving a watermelon until the New Year is not difficult, thanks to which you can surprise and delight your guests.
To do this, you need to provide the fruit with suitable storage conditions.
You will need to choose a fairly large fruit, weighing at least 4-5 kilograms. Visually assess the watermelon for freshness. A quality watermelon will have a dry stalk.
Next, take a box in which vegetables and fruits are usually stored. Fill it 50% with dry sand. Place the fruit so that the stalk is in the sand. Then add more sand to completely hide the watermelon.
Also try to ensure that the temperature does not rise above eight degrees.
