Flowers receive the necessary nutrients at the base of the stem - fertilizers must be added to the water.
A tablespoon of citric acid or vinegar softens hard water. Half aspirin, a teaspoon of salt or alcohol will help prevent stems from rotting. Sugar (1-2 tablespoons added to water) will prolong the life of living flowers.
Acetylsalicylic acid increases the lifespan of cut roses, chrysanthemums and lilies by an average of 4 days.
Cut flowers are afraid of direct sunlight and drafts. Never place fruits next to them, as they emit ethylene, which greatly reduces the life of the plants.
