Bread is not just a food product, but a sacred symbol of life and well-being.
For our ancestors, bread was especially valuable and revered, because it gave strength and satiety in difficult times.
Therefore, bread was treated with respect and gratitude, and many signs and rituals associated with it were observed.
One of the signs concerning bread is that you cannot leave uneaten pieces of bread on the table. This is not only disrespectful, but also dangerous, as it can bring poverty, illness and misfortune to the house.
Our ancestors believed that leaving bread on the table meant rejecting your happiness and good fortune. In addition, it insults the brownie - the kind guardian of the hearth, who loves bread and does not tolerate its waste.
What to do with uneaten bread? There are several options.
• Give it to pets or birds. This will be a manifestation of care and mercy to our smaller brothers.
• Dry it and make crackers, kvass or breading out of it. This will be an example of thrift and ingenuity.
• Take it out in a bag near the trash can. This will be an act of generosity and kindness to those who might need the bread.
The main thing is not to throw bread in the trash or on the ground. This will be a sign of disrespect and ingratitude to the one who grew the grain, baked the bread and shared it with you.
