Moles appear on the site if the soil is moist and fertile.

There is a lot of food in store for them in such soil: earthworms, beetle larvae, caterpillars.

Moles and the Garden

In search of food, the underground dweller digs tunnels into which beds with vegetables, greens or ornamental crops may fall.

If a young, recently planted tree is in the mole's path, its roots will be undermined. As a result, the underground part of the plant will dry out and the seedling will most likely not take root in a new place.

Moles dig underground passages at a speed of 4 km/h. Therefore, in just one night these animals can thoroughly dig up a vegetable garden.

But there is another danger. Ticks and fleas can live in the fur of moles, and the animals themselves are sometimes carriers of rabies. People very rarely see moles in person, but pets, such as dogs, can become infected with a dangerous disease.

How to get rid of moles on your property

In addition to special traps and preparations, there are folk remedies.

1. A spinner made from rebar and a plastic bottle will help scare away uninvited “guests”.

Reinforcement is inserted into the ground, and a bottle with the bottom cut off and the sides cut out inside out, which serve as blades, is placed on it.

When the wind blows, the bottle will rotate on the armature. The noise and vibrations it creates will scare away the underground inhabitants who have good hearing.

2. Another similar method is the same reinforcement, but with a tin can lid tied to it. When the wind blows, the tin can will make noise.

3. Moles have a keen sense of smell. There are smells that underground dwellers don't like. For example, fish heads or rags soaked in kerosene are stuffed into their holes.
