It seems that washing curtains in the bathroom is a waste of time, because they are constantly “washed” during showers or other water procedures.

But this is a misconception and it needs to be fought. We will tell you what you need to pay attention to.

1. Shower curtain care depends on the material they are made of. The curtain may not be washable at all.

Polyethylene

What could be more practical than the old, proven PET film? This curtain survives not only washing, but even brushing. But it is not recommended to wash it in the machine - the paint may fade.

Vinyl

This material is considered delicate and is not suitable for machine washing - only by hand. The reason is that the curtain may become creased in the machine. But before you start washing, it would be better to look at the label with the manufacturer's recommendations.

Polyester

This is the most democratic material - you can wash it by hand or in a machine and nothing will happen to it. The only thing you will have to do is remove the rings that hold the curtain on the rod.

2. Next, you need to assess the degree of contamination. If the curtain is generally clean, but individual stains are disturbing, then it is easier to carry out local cleaning.

If an unpleasant odor, yellow coating, or multiple stains appear, then you cannot do without washing or cleaning.

Stains

Traces of limescale or rust can be removed with 9% food vinegar, citric acid or lemon juice. The products are applied to the stains and left for 10-15 minutes, after which they are cleaned with a sponge or brush.

Mold

Take 1 teaspoon of soda, 2-3 drops of ammonia, mix and treat the stains, leaving for 10-15 minutes. Then clean, rinse and dry.

You can use chlorine bleach, but only if you are not afraid of the paint running.

3. In order to wash curtains in a washing machine, they must first be soaked for 1-2 hours in a chlorine solution.

bleach, and it's best to do this in the bathroom.

Wash curtains in the machine together with towels so that the curtain does not wrinkle and dirt is better removed.

You can use washing powder, be sure to select a delicate cycle, water temperature no higher than 40 degrees and no spinning.

4. Curtains can be washed by hand with laundry soap or washing powder, in warm water (40 degrees), you can use a brush.
