The traditional place to store a fur coat in the off-season is in a closet or dressing room, but putting the item in a cover does not necessarily mean providing comfortable conditions.
We'll tell you what else you need to stock up on for storing your fur coat, besides mothballs and a cover.
As it has already become clear, it is not enough to simply put the fur coat in the closet. It is necessary to provide the following conditions for the product made of natural fur.
This should be:
- dark room;
- dry room;
- spacious room.
How to store
In fact, only two options are allowed. One is on hangers, the second is a fur coat rolled up. If you leave a fur coat on a regular hanger for six months, the shoulders may sag.
In addition, the fur coat is placed in a special cover, the room temperature is not too high. And if the fur coat is stored on a shelf, you need to make sure that nothing is lying on top of it.
How to prepare a fur coat for storage
1. Check the condition of the fur and lining, and if necessary, take it to the dry cleaner.
2. Treat the moths by placing special products in the pockets and the cover. Aerosols can be used to treat the cover, but not the fur coat. Moths do not like the smells of tansy, lavender and mint.
3. If there is no special cover, then you cannot put the product in a plastic bag. For light or silver fur, you can sew a blue fabric cover. This will prevent the fur from turning yellow.
By the way, fur coats are not stored in vacuum bags either. In autumn, the fur may not be restored.
If you follow these tips and depending on the material, your fur coat can last from 2 to 20 years.
