A summer resident needs not only to grow a good harvest, but also to preserve the fruits at least until spring.

Ideally, of course, you would save the vegetables until summer, when a fresh harvest appears on the table.

As for carrots, the root vegetables can be preserved until June using one old trick.

Experienced gardeners know how to lay vegetables and what to sprinkle them with so that mold does not affect the fruit.

How to preserve the harvest

For this you will need chalk. The ingredient should be ground into powder. For 10 kg of carrots you need to take about 200 g of chalk.

A little powder is poured onto the bottom of the box. A layer of root vegetables is placed on it, which is also powdered with chalk. Then comes the next layer, chalk, etc.

The alkaline environment will protect the harvest from rot and excessive moisture. The harvest will be stored for as long as possible, and before use, it is enough to thoroughly wash the carrots - and the layer of chalk will be removed.

Root crops are stored in sand according to a similar principle. Beets, carrots, turnips, rutabagas, and radishes will be stored much longer.
