In recent years, cast iron pans have not enjoyed the huge popularity they once did: they have been replaced by Teflon-coated cookware.

And yet, some housewives prefer to cook food “the old-fashioned way.”

The fact is that potatoes and meat dishes cooked in cast iron cookware turn out incredibly tasty.

However, such pans have a serious drawback: they get dirty quickly. In addition, the deposit is difficult to remove.

As a result, cast iron cookware becomes covered in long-term carbon deposits and a thick layer of burnt fat.

Standard cleaning agents are practically ineffective against such contamination. The use of "aggressive" chemicals is not welcomed: they can damage the coating.

However, it is quite possible to restore the cleanliness and original appearance of a cast iron frying pan. To do this, you need to follow the recommendations of experienced housewives.

Step one: cleaning with salt

First, the dishes should be washed using standard dishwashing gel and powder.

Next, add salt to the pan that has been wiped dry. It is advisable to use a coarsely ground product. Also, iodized salt will not work.

The resulting layer should be approximately two centimeters high.

Next, place the dishes on the stove and turn on low heat. The salt should be heated for half an hour.

The heated product must be poured out: it will not be needed anymore.

Step two: using vegetable oil

The viscous liquid should be poured into a cast iron pan that has not yet cooled down. The heating product will help remove the remaining salt and finally rid the pan of carbon deposits.

In addition, thanks to the oil, a “film” will appear on the dishes, which will protect the household item from serious contamination.

After completing all the above procedures, the frying pan should be washed again using regular dishwashing detergents.
