In autumn and winter, you can buy vegetables and fruits that are not treated with chemicals only from conscientious farmers. In stores, in most cases, fruits are treated and covered with special compounds.
Let's figure out how to properly wash store-bought vegetables to get rid of chemicals and paraffin.
Of course, the best option is to grow your own supplies in your own garden and allotment, but sometimes there are simply no options left.
Removing wax and paraffin
These compounds are most often used to coat fruits - apples and pears. Vegetables - peppers, tomatoes, eggplants and other fruits. A clear sign of processing is the incredible shine and glow of the skin.
This substance can be washed off either with a brush or in a special solution.
To do this, dissolve 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice in a glass of water, stir and pour the solution into a spray bottle. Spray vegetables and fruits from all sides and then wipe with a paper towel. After this, you can wash the vegetables in running water.
A water-vinegar solution (1:1) also copes well with this task; the fruits are washed in it and then rinsed in water.
Removing chemicals
1. If the skin is dense and thick, like that of citrus fruits, then the fruit is treated with a substance that prevents rotting. To clean, it is enough to scald the fruit with boiling water and wash it with tap water. Bananas and pomegranates are washed in the same way.
2. If the skin is thin, like tomatoes or peaches, it is better to wash them with a sponge and baby soap and rinse with water. Experts do not recommend eating apples, pears and other fruits that have come from far away with the skin.
3. If these are root vegetables, they need to be kept in water for 15 minutes, then cleaned with a brush, rinsed in running water, after which they can be peeled or boiled in their skins.
4. Berries are washed by hand, cabbage must be cleaned of its outer leaves and the stalk removed, salads and greens are thoroughly washed in a large amount of water, and dried fruits are soaked in salted water for an hour and then doused with boiling water.
