Mold and rot won't appear right away: many people make this mistake when storing onions

Hopes for long-term storage of onions are not justified due to just one feature.

Many people want to save a rich harvest or vegetables bought for future use. But not all known storage methods are good.

So, only peeled and chopped onions can be kept in plastic bags. Excess air must be removed from the bag. Vacuum allows you to preserve the product for a long time.

It is not worth placing whole bulbs in polyethylene. This applies to any variety: purple, white, yellow or red.

This method of preserving the harvest inside the bag creates a greenhouse effect. Without air exchange, conditions arise for mold and rot to appear. This does not appear immediately. At first, it may seem that everything is fine with the vegetables, but in fact, this is not so.

Therefore, it is better to store onions in a vacuum or find a place in the cellar. The optimal temperature for the vegetable is within 0 … +3 °C. With a warm storage method, maintain +18 … +22 °C.
