Having lived through hard times once, at the first crisis situation a person tries to stock up on necessary products and means. Along with this, it is necessary not only to buy food products, but also to know how to preserve them and not let them spoil.
We will talk about storing flour so that it does not become damp, which could make the product unfit for consumption.
Also, over time, bugs and worms may appear in the flour, and then it will have to be thrown away.
Proper storage of flour
Some people believe that premium flour can be stored for 10 years. Lower grade flour also stores well, but for much less time. However, there is hardly any need to store it for so long.
• Store flour at 20°C in a dry, well-ventilated area. Without foreign odors, as it can easily absorb other odors.
• Excess moisture can spoil the flour over time, and sudden temperature changes can introduce moisture that will make it unfit for consumption.
• Store flour in a cloth or paper bag, sealed tightly. Put a plastic bag on top, this way it will last much longer.
• Pour the opened bag of flour into a glass jar, linen bag or metal box. Do not pour it directly into a plastic bag.
Protection from harmful insects
It is very important to protect flour from pest infestation. There are many varieties, from beetles and mealworms to moths and weevils.
They eat flour and also spoil it when they leave traces of their life activity in it.
To protect against pests, place a few unpeeled cloves of garlic in each container with flour.
Its aroma will not give pests any chance to survive.
For longer storage, buy flour packaged in 1 kg bags, put them in wooden boxes, sprinkling with spicy dry herbs. This can be thyme, cardamom, wormwood or calendula.
They will help keep flour safe from pests for longer, and will smell nice when baking food.
