Vinegar is the dark horse of the cleaning world.
Did you know that during the time of Genghis Khan they used it to disinfect wounds?
Today, it's saving kitchens from a grease apocalypse. Dr Emily Grossman , a Cambridge chemist, revealed on the Science Secrets podcast:
"Vinegar dissolves grease thanks to polar molecules that break the bonds between dirt and the surface."
Lifehack #7 that will make you throw away your scrapers: mix vinegar and water 1:1, pour it into a spray bottle and spray it on a cold stove. Cover with paper towels, spray again and leave for 15 minutes.
The grease will dissolve like snow in the sun. “It even worked on 2-year-old peanut butter stains!” raves John from Texas on the CleanFreaks blog.
But the main breakthrough is vinegar against limescale. In St. Petersburg, plumber Mikhail discovered that if you boil a vinegar solution in a kettle (200 ml per 1 liter of water), the scale comes off in layers. "Now I recommend it to clients instead of expensive products," he says.
Warning! Do not use vinegar on marble or granite - the acid will corrode the polish. An alternative for stone is hydrogen peroxide.
