The upper house of the Belarusian parliament has approved a bill that provides for changes to the law on pension provision for military personnel, rank-and-file and commanding officers of internal affairs agencies, emergency response agencies and units, financial investigation agencies, the Investigative Committee and the State Forensic Expertise.
The document is aimed at maintaining the level and procedure for pension provision for military personnel, rank-and-file personnel and officers of state bodies that ensure national security, after the country's withdrawal from the relevant international treaties.
This was reported by sb.by with reference to the deputy chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic on International Affairs and National Security Valery Gaidukevich.
What's in the draft law on military pensions
As Gaidukevich explained, the draft law is a response to the actions of unfriendly states in terms of pension provision for veterans of security forces.
The document specifies the categories of military pensioners who will receive a pension in Belarus and upon leaving the country. The bill also concerns family members of pensioners.
Benefits are provided for those who live in Belarus, but those leaving for unfriendly countries are deprived of them.
They must understand that they will not be provided with a pension, the senator noted.
According to the draft law, the payment of pensions to military pensioners of countries participating in international treaties who were assigned a pension in Belarus during the period of validity of such treaties will be maintained.
The document also defines the category of military pensioners who have the right to receive a pension after the termination of international treaties.
In addition, the category of citizens who are paid a pension for six months in advance, and then the payments are stopped, has been clarified.
