Belarus is the only country in the post-Soviet space and in Europe that has provided 100% video surveillance in its forest resources.

The head of the Ministry of Forestry, Alexander Kulik, spoke about this.

What the Minister Said About CCTV in Forests

As the minister said in an interview with BELTA , by the beginning of the fire season, the forest fund had been fully covered with an automated video surveillance system.

Kulik noted that Belarus is the only country in Europe and the post-Soviet space that has provided 100 percent video surveillance in forests.

We are currently conducting an analysis and identifying grey areas. We plan to eliminate them next year, the head of the department noted.

He also said that the Ministry of Forestry’s fleet of equipment includes 500 fire engines – tracked vehicles, swamp vehicles for extinguishing fires in hard-to-reach places, and other vehicles.

In 2024, 343 forest fires were registered in the country, covering an area of over 230 hectares. In 2023, there were 499 fires covering 235 hectares.

The Minister emphasized that these statistics are the result of the enormous work of the state forest protection service, which is on duty practically around the clock.
