A Hong Kong-based Malay has set an unusual record - he has become the oldest medical graduate.

A man named Toh Hong-Keng received his medical degree at the age of 70.

He received his education in the Philippines. Here in Cebu City, he graduated from the Southwestern University PHINMA.

He was previously a sales manager, a position he had worked in for about thirty years.

After Hong-Keng celebrated his 65th birthday, he decided to retire.

But instead of enjoying a well-deserved rest, in 2019, at the age of 66, he entered PHINMA.

When choosing a university, the record holder took into account several factors, including cost, language of instruction, and age restrictions.

He initially wanted to study in Malaysia, but he couldn't find any students there who were over 35 years old.

He says he has no plans to work as a doctor. Hong-Keng would like to return to sales and explore marketing opportunities in the medical industry.

Hong-Keng did not consider becoming a doctor even in his youth. Instead, he spent his time studying finance, chemistry, and engineering.

The idea of pursuing a medical education came to him before his retirement after meeting medical students from India during a trip to Kyrgyzstan.

By the way, the family, consisting of three children and two grandchildren, supported Hong-Keng’s action.
