The title of the oldest weightlifter in the world in 2019 was awarded to Edith Murvey-Traina.
At the time the record was set, the American woman was almost 99 years old.
To be more precise, Edith's age at the time of her last competition was 98 years and 94 days.
It is interesting that the woman became interested in powerlifting relatively recently – at the age of 91.
Then her friend Carmen invited Edith to visit a fitness club, and soon she developed a new hobby.
The elderly athlete said she had come to love the regular exercise routine.
Don't think that the exercises were easy for her - each time Murvey-Traina challenged herself to become better and better.
Her persistence and hard work led to her becoming part of the team after a short time.
Since then, Edith has been successfully competing in powerlifting competitions.
There, spectators and judges look with delight at the elderly lady who lifts barbells weighing from 18 to 68 kg.
Murvey-Traina evokes the same feelings in his family and friends.
According to the record holder's daughter, their relative's achievements are a big part of their family. By the way, Edith's family is really big, because by the age of 99 she has already become a great-great-grandmother.
