German Julia Pletcher ran the 100m in 14 seconds, but still got into the Guinness Book of Records: and here's why

09.12.2024 10:58

Julia Pletcher from Germany once ran the 100-meter dash in 14.53 seconds.

For a girl who is a professional athlete, this result would be quite bad.

With such a result, the athlete would most likely take the last or one of the last places at the Olympics (even in the preliminary races).

And it’s a long way from the record set in 1988 by American Florence Griffith Joyner (10.49 seconds)!

And yet Julia Plecher got into the Guinness Book of Records. For one simple reason: the girl did not go out on the distance in sports shoes.

The Essence of Julia Plecher's Record

The girl ran a hundred meters... in high heels.

Shoes with high and thin heels are clearly not suitable for sports.

Despite this, the German not only ran to the finish line, but also showed a result that was included in the Guinness Book of Records.

Plecher spent 14.53 seconds to cover the distance.

As a result, the German resident was recognized as a record holder in running in high heels.

On the day the unusual record was set, the girl was 18 years old.
