Bella, a cat from Huntingdon, UK, has set a record for the loudest purr in the world.

The volume of the sound it produces is 54.59 dB.

What is noteworthy is that at the time of measurements the microphone was located one meter from the animal and the floor.

To make it clearer for the average person, the volume of Bella's purring can be compared to the sound of a boiling kettle or even a working washing machine.

The cat's owner, Nicole Spink, said that her pet purrs all day long - the main thing is to provide her with food and cuddles.

Nicole's late husband sometimes even complained that Bella's purring prevented him from watching television because it drowned out the sound.

The cat purrs even when it is at the veterinarian's.

Bella is recognized as the loudest domestic cat alive, but the absolute record for loudest purr belongs to two other cats – Smokey and Merlin. In 2011, Smokey produced sounds at a level of 67.8 dB, which is 13.21 dB louder than Bella. Four years later, Merlin achieved the same result.
