When it comes to record-breaking or heavyweight vegetables, pumpkin is the one that comes to mind.
This is the most popular vegetable among farmers, with which they can make a statement.
The world record belongs to the Atlantic pumpkin Cucurbita maxima, bred in North America.
In 2021, Italian farmer Stefano Catrupi managed to grow a pumpkin that weighs more than the average car.
The 1,226 kg pumpkin was entered into the Guinness Book of Records. It is heavier than a Nissan Micra and 100 times heavier than the average pumpkin.
The dimensions of the vegetable are no less impressive.
The pumpkin is 3.56 meters wide and has a circumference of 5.42 meters, making it the largest vegetable ever grown by humans.
It is worth noting that the first pumpkin to be included in the Guinness Book of Records was grown in 1955 in Great Britain and weighed 41.7 kg.
The previous record belonged to a pumpkin weighing 513 kg.
Experts believe that theoretically this vegetable can reach 9071 kg in weight. But in practice this is hardly achievable.
