Smooth highways without turns and bends are tiring and boring. But drivers also do not like excessively winding and snake-like roads.

When you enter an unloved stretch of road, remember Lombard Street. It is so crooked that it was decided to include it in the Guinness Book of Records.

The most winding street in the world is called Lombard Street and it is located in San Francisco (California, USA).

The street is only 400 meters long, but the road builders managed to fit 8 sharp turns here.

Typically, in this part of the world, cities are built according to a pattern of parallel "streets" and perpendicular "avenues".

But the street in question is located on Russian Hill with a slope of 27%.

It is clear that the cost of housing in this part of the city did not increase much in price. The problem was solved by building the most winding street.

The project was proposed in 1922. Traffic here is one-way.

Even after that, the speed limit on Lombard Street is 8 km/h.

And in 1999, the authorities considered whether to close the road here altogether, but limited themselves to a ban on parking.
