The man who grew the heaviest strawberry in the world is Israeli farmer Chachi Ariel.
At least that's what the Guinness Book of Records says, and we have no reason not to trust it.
According to records, the berry weighed 289 grams, which is about five times the average weight of a regular berry belonging to the local Ilan variety.
This is the conclusion reached by researcher Nir Dai from the Israeli Volcani Institute, where this variety was developed and grown.
The length of the berry was 18 cm, and its circumference was 34 cm.
The record was set in 2021, and is thought to have been partly due to the unusually cold weather that occurred earlier that year.
Under these conditions, the ripening process of strawberries slowed down, which allowed them to continue to increase in weight.
By the way, the previous record was set in 2015, when a Japanese farmer grew strawberries weighing 250 g.
