In theatrical and musical arts there is a very interesting tradition - the curtain call.
After the completion of a play or other performance, the artists come out on stage, bow and receive a “reward” in the form of applause from the audience.
The audience can call the artists to take a bow several times.
The record for the number of such calls was set by the outstanding Italian singer Luciano Pavarotti.
It happened in Berlin in 1988.
Luciano Pavarotti's Achievement
At the end of February 1988, the singer performed the role of Nemorino in Gaetano Donizetti's The Elixir of Love on the stage of the Deutsche Oper.
The audience enjoyed the performance so much that they called the representative of the Three Tenors to take a bow… 165 times!
The total duration of this “process” was 67 minutes.
Of course, the unusual achievement was not ignored by the compilers of the Guinness Book of Records.
Since then, Luciano Pavarotti has been mentioned in the reference book as the artist with the record for the number of curtain calls.
It is worth emphasizing that the outstanding opera singer is the author of several other achievements. For example, participation in the recording of the most commercially successful work in the history of classical music.
