How much does an adult weigh? If we are talking about a large man, then the figure can be more than 100 kg.

A petite girl can weigh less than 50 kg.

But in the second half of the 19th century, there lived in North America a circus performer who weighed... only a few kilos.

This woman's name was Lucia Zarate.

The Guinness Book of Records has awarded her the status of the lightest-weight adult in recorded history.

Biography of Lucia Zarate

She was born in Mexico in 1864. When the girl was 12 years old, she moved to the United States.

There, Zarate, thanks to her tiny size, became a circus performer.

It is known that at that time the girl’s height was just over 50 centimeters.

When Zarate turned 17, her weight was measured. It was only 2.1 kg. At least, this incredible figure is mentioned in reference books.

Zarate, 20, weighed 6.4 kg.

The circus performer died in 1890 at the age of 26. The cause of death was hypothermia: the train in which Zarate was traveling got stuck in the snowy mountains.
