Unlucky, so unlucky: who was found to have the largest and heaviest kidney stone

23.06.2024 20:15

The world's largest kidney stone measures 13.37 cm in length and 10.55 cm in width.

The growth was discovered and removed from Canistus Kunge, a 62-year-old retired soldier from Sri Lanka.

The stone was so huge that its size exceeded the Kung soil itself with a bipole length of 13 cm.

But that's not all: the kidney stone removed has set another record.

Since its weight was about 800 g, the stone also became the heaviest in the world. For comparison: five baseballs weigh about the same.

A record-breaking stone was found in a man's right kidney.

The urology team at the Army Hospital in Colombo performed an operation called open pyelolithotomy.

The doctor made an incision in the renal pelvis and surgically removed the stone. Fortunately, the operation was successful.
