24.04.2024 09:02

In April of this year, it became known that the world record in discus throw, set 38 years ago, had finally been broken.

Let's tell you who now holds the honorary title of record holder.

It was 21-year-old athlete from Lithuania, Mykolas Alekna.

At 19, Mikolas won a silver medal at the 2022 World Championships, making him the youngest ever World Discus medalist.

That year was very fruitful for him, as he also became European Champion.

The following year, in 2023, Alekna won bronze at the World Championships. Then his result was 68.85 meters.

And already in 2024, at the competition in Ramona (Oklahoma, USA), he threw the discus 74.35 meters, thereby breaking the world record among men.

Let us recall that this achievement was previously “accredited” to the German track and field athlete Jurgen Schult.

Back in 1986, he managed to throw a discus a distance of 74.08 meters.

Earlier we talked about the shortest player in NBA history.
