The oldest city on Earth has literally made history, as we are talking about ancient Jericho, located in the Palestinian National Authority on the West Bank of the Jordan River.
Founded in 9600 BC, it still survives and has become not only a part of biblical history.
Ancient Jericho
Modern archaeologists have discovered that Jericho flourished during the Middle Bronze Age.
Scientists believe that in 1650 BC the city was destroyed by a shock wave and fire, which could have been caused by the fall of an ice meteorite.
It is believed to have fallen near the settlement of Tell el-Hammam.
Modern Jericho
The oldest city in the world, which occupies 59 square kilometers, is home to 20 thousand people, according to the 2006 census.
The city's population is made up of Palestinian Arabs.
In 2000, Israelis were banned from entering Jericho.
In rare cases, the Israeli army allows groups of tourists into the city.
Previously we talked about world fishing records.
