The world is filled with smells. Smells are present everywhere: in the kitchen, at work, and even in relationships.
Smells are divided into pleasant and disgusting. The former are called aromas, and the latter are called stench. But what aroma is considered the most pleasant in the world?
Scientists have found that two smells compete for the top spot in the world. At the same time, only one smell was named the most unpleasant.
Swedish and British scientists decided to tackle this problem.
They recruited 235 volunteers from around the world for their research.
Even representatives of closed indigenous communities took part in the survey, and the results were published in Science Daily.
The most pleasant smells
As already mentioned, two fragrances competed for first place.
But the first place was given to vanilla. Here the refined aroma itself and the popularity of vanilla in the world played a role.
Second place went to ethyl ester of butyric acid. It turns out that this is what peaches smell like.
The most unpleasant smell
No, it's not even the smell of rotten eggs.
Researchers have concluded that isovaleric acid (soy milk, cheese, or sweaty feet) smells the most terrible.
Apparently these smells are more common in nature than rotten eggs.
Earlier we talked about why sleeping people do not wake up from their own snoring .
