On the opening day of the new academic season, students from the Vitebsk region talked with Alexander Lukashenko, who came to visit them.
Among other things, the young people learned how the President feels when he is praised.
According to the speaker, sometimes he feels uncomfortable when he hears praise addressed to him.
The head of state believes that “we must calmly accept this reality.”
Let them speak well of me when I am not President. That will be good, the Belarusian leader's press service quotes him as saying.
He noted: “When you are in power” and your subordinates praise you, “I feel uncomfortable, even if I understand that I deserve it.”
The President called on students to be careful with history, since, as he stated, it is often “made” to fit the periods in which certain leaders of countries lived.
This is precisely what Lukashenko, he admitted, is trying to protect “our generation” from. And especially the intelligentsia.
That is why I never praise the intelligentsia, I don’t pet them, I don’t tempt them with money. Not under any circumstances,” added the head of state.
He did not rule out that the new President would begin to “break the intelligentsia to their knees,” seeking to ensure that they extol the period of his activity.
