Nobody Talks About This: How to Wash Pets to Minimize Stress

If you bathe your cat or dog regularly once a month, you should know that for most dogs and cats this is torture.

Their skin lacks a protective fatty layer, so frequent washing causes dermatitis.

Use shampoo no more than once every 3 months, and wipe the coat with wet wipes between baths.

But the main thing is technique. Never pour water on the head! The ears and eyes are the most vulnerable places. Wet the body, apply shampoo to the back and lather in the direction of hair growth. Dry shampoo made from oatmeal is suitable for cats: rub it in and comb out dirt.

And if your pet is afraid of water, accustom it to the sound of rain. Turn on the recording at low volume during games and feeding.

Gradually increase the time until the fear disappears. And never dry with a hair dryer - the noise is traumatic for the psyche. Better wrap in a towel and keep warm.

But bathing is not only about hygiene. For dogs with skin problems, use shampoos with chlorhexidine.

And wash long-haired cats with conditioner to prevent tangling of fur. After water procedures, check the ears: if water gets in, wipe them with a cotton pad with miramistin.

And remember: some breeds don't need bathing at all. Siamese cats and Basenjis lick themselves, while dogs like Huskies only need brushing.

Don't impose human standards of cleanliness on your pets - their health is more important.

Experts advise new dog or cat owners to choose shampoo together with a veterinarian, as well as pet food.

When choosing a care product, it is necessary to take into account the animal’s age, diet, possible diseases, and breed characteristics.

And in order for your pet's fur and skin to be healthy, it is necessary to adhere to a comprehensive approach to caring for the animal.
