The optimal duration of walking the animal is the one that the pet owner “calculates” himself.
The thing is that there are different dogs. For small breeds, a five-minute walk is sometimes enough.
And there are dogs that are ready to stay outdoors for an hour or even longer.
But how do you determine the length of a walk that is ideal for your four-legged friend?
How to Determine the Optimal Length of a Dog Walk
This may take several days.
First, go for a 15-minute walk, then a 20-minute walk, a half-hour walk, and so on.
Determine how long it takes for the dog to start looking visibly tired.
Subtract 5-10 minutes from this figure. As a result, you will get the optimal walking duration.
In other words, if the dog is tired 40 minutes after going outside, then you need to walk the pet for 30-35 minutes.
Another strategy is to simply remember the last time the dog looked active before getting tired. For example, if the dog was still showing a high level of activity 45 minutes into the walk, but looked tired after 15 minutes, then the walk should last exactly 45 minutes.
