Dogs, like people, age with time.
As pets age, they have new needs and challenges. It is important to know how to properly care for them at this new stage of their life.
Health. The first thing to pay attention to. Aging dogs have problems with joints, vision, hearing, says Belyaeva Diana .
Make sure your home has a non-slip surface and a soft bed, and don’t scold your dog if it doesn’t respond or come right away.
Watch for changes in your pet's behavior that may be caused by pain or discomfort in movement.
Visit your veterinarian regularly. The specialist will monitor changes in your dog's health and recommend supportive devices. Do a body check-up at least once every 6 months. Monitor the condition of your dog's teeth.
Nutrition. Any dog should have a balanced diet, regardless of age. In seniors (7 years and older), nutrition plays a key role in maintaining health.
Metabolism slows down, so you should consult a veterinary nutritionist to create a balanced diet taking into account the breed, age and individual characteristics of the dog.
Cleanliness. Older dogs are not clean. With age, pets' memory decreases, so they can do something "wrong". You should not scold the dog, this will only make the situation worse
Games. Spare your pet from activities. Replace them with "calm" games, for example: search, licking mat, turn on calming music, read aloud.
Reduce the time of the walk. Older dogs prefer to move less. Sit with your pet on a blanket, watch the ducks in the park, walk slowly around the house.
Pay more attention, create comfortable conditions for the aging dog. If your pet liked to climb on the sofa, you can buy a special ladder and put it nearby.
Despite their age, dogs still remain loyal and devoted to us, so they deserve our care throughout their lives!
