A dog's vision, like a human's, can deteriorate.
Unfortunately, many pets face this problem.
The reasons may be different: old age of the dog, illnesses, injuries, etc.
And the owner may not immediately notice that his dog is losing his sight.
The fact is that dogs are quite good at orienting themselves in space using their sense of smell.
Moreover, deterioration of vision does not affect the appearance of the dog’s eyes.
Often people pay attention to the problem only when it comes to complete or almost complete loss of vision.
How can you "figure out" your dog's deteriorating vision in time? It is clear that you need to pay attention to how well the animal navigates in space.
If the dog often bumps into things in his path, then the situation is bad.
At the slightest suspicion, one of the two tests described below (or better yet, both) should be performed.
Check the pupils' reaction to light
Bring your palm as close to the dog's vision as possible.
Be careful not to harm the dog. Avoid even touching the eyelashes.
While performing the test, pay attention to your pupils: they should react to the fact that the illumination has changed.
If there is no reaction, then the dog's vision has most likely actually deteriorated.
Check your dog's reaction to toys
Move at least 10 steps away from your pet.
Take your four-legged friend's toys.
Show these things to the dog. But do not press on anything: there should be no sounds.
If the dog does not react to its favorite balls and soft toys, then the pet should be taken to the vet. There may be serious problems with vision.
