You've probably heard the expression: "Don't pull the cat by the tail."
It is usually used figuratively, but it can also have a literal meaning, for example when an animal becomes a "victim" of small children.
Why does a cat need a tail?
To understand the danger of pulling a cat's tail, it is worth getting to know the functions that this organ performs in the life of an animal.
1. The tail serves to maintain the animal's balance. Thanks to it, the cat deftly balances when moving through narrow areas, as well as when jumping.
2. The tail also protects the cat from injury when falling: by controlling it in flight, the animal turns over in the air and lands on its paws.
3. Cats use their tail to communicate with their relatives and people: its movement can determine the mood and desires of the pet.
4. Finally, the tail warms our meowing pets in the cold season: surely every owner of a furry pet has noticed how a cat curls up into a ball and covers itself with its tail, thus preserving the warmth of its body.
Earlier we talked about why cats often lie on the stomachs of pregnant women.
