It's not just cats that exhibit strange behavior. Dogs, too, sometimes make their owners think.
For example, after the dog starts asking to go outside so that he can be taken to the toilet quickly, he starts to stamp his feet and spin around in place for a long time, as if forgetting what he wanted.
Scientists have found out what causes such strange behavior in dogs, and the results of their work were published in Frontiers in Zoology.
Initially, everyone was convinced that the dog is confused by the smell of strangers. Therefore, it can think for a long time before going to the toilet in someone else's territory.
But scientists link dogs' behavior to the Earth's magnetic field.
Before coming up with this idea, scientists observed animals for two years.
And here's what we found out.
If the Earth's magnetic field was calm, then when going to the toilet, dogs sat with their backs to the north or south.
If disturbances were observed, the dogs would circle around in one place for a long time.
Most often, on days of magnetic disturbances, dogs, after a long search for the poles, sat down to relieve themselves as best they could.
The researchers concluded that such maneuvers help animals navigate their territory, as they say, without a compass.
Earlier we talked about why dogs smell .
