If a dog often barks at people passing by while being walked, the pet owner cannot ignore this problem.
Of course, we are talking about those cases when the animal reacts to pedestrians who do not pose any danger.
It is clear that if a person behaves inappropriately, then the dog’s attempt to protect its owner is quite understandable.
But if a dog barks even when it is not necessary, then the pet owner must take immediate action.
How should a dog owner react?
The dog started barking at a passerby? Immediately pull the animal by the leash.
Do the same if the dog starts to react aggressively to nearby cats.
In other words, show your pet that such behavior is unacceptable.
As soon as the dog stops barking, pet it or give it a treat. Has the animal become noisy again? Stop petting or feeding your pet immediately.
The dog must understand the following connection: barking at harmless passers-by is bad, not barking is good.
If you don't immediately stop a barking dog, it will be very difficult to correct the animal's behavior later.
