Cats have claws that they sharpen periodically, and it’s good if they use a scratching post for this.

Usually, animals adapt carpets, upholstered furniture and anything else that seems convenient and suitable to them for these needs. In this case, in just a year, only fringe may remain from the sofa.

To prevent these troubles from happening, pets have their claws trimmed. Here's how to properly and how often you need to do a pedicure for animals.

How often

There is no clear information regarding the timing due to the peculiarities of each animal's body. One cat will have to be trimmed once a week, another every few weeks.

In addition, trimmed claws grow unevenly - one may grow quickly, while the one next to it does not.

Moreover, this process occurs faster on the front paws.

But on average, you need to check the condition of the claws once every 3-4 weeks.

How to cut

Don't skimp on a special tool and don't use your unnecessary scissors or tweezers for this. The fact is that human nails and animal claws are different in texture and density.

Claw cutters or guillotines are commonly used.

1. You need to choose a well-lit place.

2. The pet needs to be calmed down, or better yet, wrapped in a towel or diaper.

3. Press on the paw pad, and when the claw appears, it needs to be cut so as not to damage the blood vessels - they are clearly visible in the light. You need to step back from the vessel at least 2 mm.

4. If there is damage, you need to use a tampon to stop the bleeding or a special powder.

5. After the procedure, the pet should be thanked for its patience. The best praise and reward is affection and tasty food or vitamins.
