Windows in apartments and houses left in ventilation mode are a common sight during the warm season.
The regime does not pose a threat to safety and security of property. But experts advise thinking about the safety of pets - cats in particular.
For a pet, an open window may be the last thing it remembers in its life.
Ventilation mode and cats
In this mode, the window sash is in a vertical position and at an angle, tapering towards the bottom.
If the head of a cat can easily fit at the top, then in the middle the pet may find itself in a hopeless situation.
When an animal is trapped, it begins to panic, while, obeying the laws of physics, the pet's body weight will pull it down, causing the narrow space to act as a noose.
The pet's position can lead to serious consequences if it gets stuck between the frames in the abdominal area. Then the frame can squeeze the abdominal cavity.
What to do
Experts advise to extract the pet without any sudden movements, and then, without trying to bring it to its senses, take it to the nearest veterinary clinic.
Only a veterinarian can assess the extent of the lesion, provide the necessary assistance, collect tests, conduct an ultrasound and X-ray diagnostics, and prescribe treatment based on the results of the examination, advises the magazine “Veterinary Science and Life”.
