Anyone who thinks that ticks wake up along with all the spring insect pests is mistaken.
This parasite only needs minimal warmth to wake up and, obeying its instincts, start looking for prey. That is why it is so important to examine your pet after each walk.
It is best to feel the dog's body with your hands. Most often, insects hide under the arms and on the neck. That is, where the pet cannot reach on its own.
Is it possible to remove a tick?
This can and should be done immediately after detection using special or improvised means.
Of the special ones, you can buy so-called removers or pullers at a veterinary pharmacy.
The most commonly used tool is a thread, which is used to tie a loop, throw it over the tick and twist the parasite out.
Errors
You shouldn't remove the tick with your hands, because you can accidentally crush the parasite, and then the pest's proboscis will remain in the dog's body.
After the tick is neutralized, it is enough to observe the dog for several days. If suddenly the pet becomes lethargic, loses appetite, salivates and the temperature rises above 39 degrees, then you need to contact a specialist.
Protection
To protect your dog from the consequences of a tick bite, you need to get vaccinated in advance or undergo special treatment at intervals of once every 5 weeks.
Drops and sprays, collars and overalls also help in this regard.
