Why you need to raise a cat that lives in an apartment: advice from breeders so that life with a pet does not turn into hell

The difference between a domesticated animal and a wild one is that man has instilled in it certain qualities necessary for certain purposes. But this does not mean that the instincts characteristic of a wild animal have disappeared.

If you refuse to train a cat, it will be guided by what nature tells it - conquer territory, drive away competitors, go to the kitchen to hunt for a chicken or a piece of sausage.

People often forget that cats do not know the rules of human life. And a responsible owner must explain these rules to the pet so that life with him does not turn into hell.

A cat is not a person, even though it is a member of the family

Animals can be wonderful companions that bring joy and pleasure to their owners. But they need to be raised and trained.

Representatives of the cat family have a fairly high intelligence, otherwise lions and tigers would not be used for circus performances. Domestic cats are even more intelligent, as they have lived alongside people for hundreds of years and adapted to human conditions of existence.

Education develops intelligence, helps the animal become more disciplined, manageable, and courageous.

The stupider the cat, the more fearful it is.

Breeders recommend training a kitten from the first days of its appearance in the house. But this should be done gently, unobtrusively, but constantly.

Start accustoming the baby to the name. Say the name, give a treat when the kitten looks at you. The cat will not only learn what its name is, but will also get used to focusing on the owner every time it hears its name. This will help to switch the pet's attention to you in an emergency, for example, when the cat is very scared of something.

Cats can be trained to perform various commands and tricks. This is useful for developing intelligence, allowing them to exercise, which they are deprived of in an apartment.

If you don't give your apartment cat tasks, it will start to ruin furniture, dig up flowers, and "walk on the walls." But training and games help to release energy.

Don't want to learn tricks? Don't do that. But you definitely need to train your cat. Breeders recommend getting your kitten used to the most important things:

• traveling by car or public transport;

• being in a carrier;

• a collar with an address tag (in case the cat runs away, it should have a medallion with a phone number);

• prohibitive command (“No”, “You can’t”, or any other);

• prohibitions (there are places where the cat cannot be, for example, the kitchen table, a child’s crib);

• examination by a veterinarian.

• grooming procedures (combing, nail trimming).

There is no need to explain what will happen if you try to brush an ill-mannered adult cat, put it in a carrier or take it to the country by car. But if you accustom the kitten to all these things, even a visit to the vet will not cause any trouble.

Train the animal gradually. Let the kitten go in and out of the carrier a couple of times. Then carry it around the house for a minute and let it out. Repeat for a week or two. Then take it outside for a short time, let it get used to the noise. The first time, let the animal into the car for a couple of minutes, so that it gets used to the new smells, gets used to it. After 3-4 such visits, you can start the engine for a short time to accustom the cat to the sound.

In the same way, accustom the kitten to any manipulations. Do not cut the claws right away. Just click the scissors while the kitten is sitting on your lap. Let it get used to it.

It is also important not to overwhelm the baby with tasks. Do everything gradually. First, accustom to something simple, then complicate the task. The kitten should immediately study the apartment, things, prohibitions, and only then can it be accustomed to the street, the car, trips.
